Does Your Cavity Need a Crown or a Filling?

Posted on 6/20/2019 by Alexandra Garcia DDS MS
Does Your Cavity Need a Crown or a Filling?Almost everyone has had a cavity at least once in their lifetime. It is something that happens. It is something that you need to have addressed. When you have problems in your mouth, these problems can become worse and they may interfere with your physical health.

Our dentists take the time to assess the situation and then provide the treatment plan options that you have. When it comes to a cavity, you may require a filling or a crown depending on the severity of it. Here's why.

Which is Best for Your Cavity?

When cavities are not that deep, and they do not cause a lot of discomfort, but they are there then they are filled. These are generally simple fillings that can be done. Sometimes they are a bit deeper in the tooth, but not too far down to where the nerves are affected by the decay.

If the nerves of the tooth are affected by the decay, then a crown will be required because the tooth is broken too far down. The tooth has to be cleaned out and filled before a crown can be molded and placed over the tooth. This is done in two visits to our office. Once the crown is completed, it is then fitted and cemented over the broken tooth that requires it.

It is important that this is done because if the tooth continues to decay, you may end up losing it or it might cause an infection in your mouth.

Speak with our dentists today regarding the tooth that is causing you problems. We would be more than happy to provide you with a treatment plan after we take a look to see what is going on. Give us a call today and we can schedule an appointment to have you come out for an exam.
