 Years ago, dentures were made from either plastic or porcelain. However, today they are made from a hard resin. This means that dentures are now more fragile than dentures of the past and they are particularly more fragile than natural teeth. As such, they are able to easily chip and crack if you drop them or don't care for them properly. They will also wear down faster than your natural teeth, which is why they must be replaced at least once every five (or so) years.How Not to Break Your DenturesIt's important to always handle your dentures carefully. When you're not wearing your dentures, you should always keep them in a case so they don't fall and break. Any time you're holding your dentures in your hands, make sure you're doing so while standing over either a folded towel or a sink full of water. This way if they fall, they'll fall on something soft and not break. You don't want your dentures to break because when this happens, you must have them fixed or replaced before you'll be able to wear them again. Additionally, when you're not wearing your dentures for any extended period of time, you'll want to make sure you keep them moist. Do this by leaving them in either plain water or in some cleanser. Make sure that if you leave them in water, it isn't hot because this can cause your dentures to become warped. This also plays an important role in the proper care and maintenance of your dentures.
