Preparing for Your First Week with New Dentures

Posted on 8/22/2022 by Alexandra Garcia DDS MS
Preparing for Your First Week with New DenturesDentures are critical oral appliances that give you the comfort and flexibility to eat, speak, and smile with confidence. If you are missing several teeth, dentures will help restore your ability to chew food properly and support jaw muscles. Even though dentures come with all these benefits, getting used to them can take quite some time. This is why you need to put measures in place, especially if you will get dentures for the first time. This is vital because it will help make it easier to wear dentures during the first few weeks.

Know What To Eat

With new dentures, you will need to adjust your foods and how you eat them. Generally, most dentures have spaces, making it easy for food particles to get stuck. In addition, you might easily slip dentures out of place while you bite into hard food substances like ice. Dentures could easily slip out of position during the first weeks because gums need time to adjust to biting and chewing.

In addition, gums could get sores from wearing new dentures. This is more likely to be the case if you bite into hard foods. Therefore, it is prudent that you prepare the foods you will eat during the first few weeks in your new dentures. Ensure that the foods are soft to simplify chewing. Some of the food options you should consider include mashed potatoes, yogurt, pudding, among others.

Get Cleaning Products

Like natural teeth, dentures need regular cleaning. Cleaning your dentures should involve more than just brushing them. You need to floss them regularly and have our dentists examine them for any damages. Some of the cleaning tools you might need include a denture cleaning solution, a soft-bristled toothbrush, floss, and a soft towel.
