We Can Replace a Tooth With a Single Dental Implant
A single tooth implant might be the solution to your missing tooth. It could give you back all that you lost and thought was gone forever.
There are many different reasons why a person might lose a tooth. Tooth or gum disease can play a part. The tooth might have been knocked out. It is even possible to lose a tooth because of age or genetics. A dental implant could be the answer that you are looking for.
With a single tooth implant, we will need to make sure that there is enough bone in your jaw for the implant to hold. If you have been missing a tooth for awhile, you will also be missing bone. Your body will start gradual bone resorption the moment that you lose the tooth. If you do not have enough bone, we will need to add a step to the dental implant process.
If you need more bone, we will need to do a bone graft procedure. We will take a small amount of bone, grind it, and then add it where you are going to have the implant. The ground bone will eventually fuse with your bone, and it will become strong. A bone graft can take several weeks.
You will need a new root for your single tooth replacement implant. We will use a titanium screw for that. We will add the screw to your jaw, and then place a temporary cap on it. This step can also take several weeks because, like the bone granules, the screw needs to fuse with your jaw through a process called osseointegration.
Placing the Permanent Crown
Once the screw has set, we will have you return and give you a permanent crown on the screw. The crown will match the rest of your teeth, so it will not be noticeable.
You will care for your implant the same way that you take care of the rest of your teeth because it will become a new tooth for you. The dental implant needs to be brushed and flossed. Also, if there is a problem or if you have any pain, come in to see us right away.
A single dental implant might take a few weeks to be complete, but it is definitely worth it. It will look and feel natural once the process is complete. Here at Alexandra Garcia, DDS, we want to help you to love your smile once again. Call (346) 250-2930 to make an appointment.
